How do Leveling Curves work?
Different games use different mathematical formulas to determine how much experience is needed for each level. Our calculator supports the most common curves:
- Flat: Every level requires the exact same amount of XP. (e.g., Battle Pass systems)
- Linear: The XP required increases by a set amount each level. (e.g., classic RPGs)
- Quadratic: The XP required increases faster as you level up, making higher levels take significantly longer. (e.g., RuneScape, World of Warcraft)
- Cubic: The XP required scales exponentially. The final few levels take as much time as the rest of the levels combined. (e.g., extreme grind Korean MMOs)
Why calculate XP per hour?
Knowing your average XP per hour allows you to optimize your playtime and set realistic goals. By tracking your progress during a typical session, you can determine if a specific grinding method is worth the effort or if you need to find a more efficient strategy to reach your target level before an event ends or a new season begins.
